Hybio Wuhan Partners with GenTech to Forge New Paths in Peptide Industry Waste Liquid Resource Recovery

2026-04-25

With the surge in global market demand for GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1) drugs, domestic peptide production capacity continues to expand. Consequently, the treatment of massive amounts of backend production waste liquid is becoming a critical bottleneck restricting the industry's green development. In response, the Wuhan subsidiary of Shenzhen Hybio Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Hybio Wuhan") recently partnered with Shanghai GenTech Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "GenTech") to jointly advance a resource recovery and reduction project for organic waste liquids generated during peptide production.

This collaboration aims to introduce an advanced waste treatment and solvent recovery system to categorize, collect, and centrally process waste liquids from the peptide synthesis, cleavage, and purification stages. Through processes such as distillation and adsorption, organic solvents in the waste liquid are separated and purified, converting them into reusable industrial excipients or alternative fuels for hazardous waste. This effectively reduces the volume and frequency of outsourced waste disposal, significantly minimizing the environmental footprint of the production process.

As one of the leading enterprises in the domestic peptide drug sector, Hybio Pharmaceutical relies on its Wuhan manufacturing site for the critical production tasks of core peptide products and its CDMO business. Facing order growth driven by products like GLP-1 analogues, Hybio Wuhan consistently prioritizes environmental compliance and clean production while boosting capacity.

A representative from Hybio Wuhan stated: "As production capacity increases, the pressure on backend waste treatment grows significantly. Collaborating with GenTech on this waste liquid resource recovery project is an important measure for us to implement waste reduction at the source and practice green manufacturing. Reducing the generation of hazardous waste through technical means not only lowers environmental risks but also meets our clients' requirements for supplier sustainability."

GenTech has long served high-end manufacturing sectors, including semiconductors, photovoltaics, and biopharmaceuticals, accumulating rich engineering experience in Solvent Recovery Units (SRU) and high-purity chemical separation. Given the multiple solvent types and complex compositions of peptide production waste liquids, GenTech will provide a customized, modular treatment system. This system will focus on the separation and cascaded utilization of common solvents such as acetonitrile, DMF (dimethylformamide), and dichloromethane, assisting the enterprise in achieving compliant, safe, and efficient waste reduction goals.

A project manager from GenTech remarked: "Green manufacturing and the circular economy are inherent requirements for the high-quality development of high-end manufacturing. We are delighted to partner with Hybio Pharmaceutical to apply mature solvent recovery technologies to the peptide waste treatment scenario, helping the company navigate the environmental pressures brought on by capacity expansion."

Currently, the market for peptide drugs like GLP-1 is in a phase of rapid growth, and the environmental and cost challenges facing the entire industrial chain are becoming increasingly prominent. Industry insiders point out that the collaboration between Hybio Pharmaceutical and GenTech, focusing on waste reduction and resource recovery, explores a viable path that balances capacity growth with environmental compliance for the peptide and pharmaceutical intermediate industries.
